This week's MATS theme is hand-lettering, something I've never really tried before. Normally, by this point in the week, I'd have finished products to show, but I'm taking my time to practice this new-to-me skill. As I work, I thought it would be fun to share some of my hand-lettering projects as free printables on the blog.
I've been using the Project Life/pocket pages system of scrapbooking for a little over a year now, and I really enjoy it. It's a really simple and fun method of keeping my photos printed and organized, and, as Tony says, it makes memory keeping into a baseball card collecting game. Fun, right?
The only issue with Project Life is that I don't always find cards and supplies that fit into my aesthetic, so I decided to create my own. With my love of red, pink, and hearts, Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect occasion to jump onto the designing bandwagon.
I always love a project that challenges me to push my craft forward, and I've been running into quite a few of those lately. One of the new techniques that I've been having the most fun with is for a project where I was asked to recreate the garish festive look of an ugly Christmas sweater as embroidered text. I'd like to share with you the shading method that I used in this project to blend together the clashing cheery colors in the embroidery.
If you're in the mood to learn a bunch of new embroidery stitches and to celebrate your love of ugly Christmas sweaters, you're in luck! Stitch along with this embroidery sampler to try your hand at nine different embroidery techniques.
I'm always in the middle of way too many books at any given time, and I've found myself in need of more bookmarks. I tend to use random scraps of paper or business cards from friends, but that's just not as fun as a proper bookmark.
