Sketches, Doodles, & Cetera — Hand Lettering

Lately, I've been busily preparing for the National Stationery Show in New York in a few weeks, so I thought I'd share some of my process with all of you today.

One of my big goals for the show is to update my greeting card line (which is the main focus of the stationery show, of course) to include cards with messages on the front. Since I already have a ton of illustrations to choose from, and I really love hand lettering, I'm adding hand-lettered messages to my existing artwork.

I’ve been pretending it’s springtime, despite the fact that Portland has been blanketed with snow off and on these past couple of weeks. My flower garden is doing its best to burst through the wintry land, and this is my homage to its efforts. Help ring in spring with these little forest creature computer desktops. This time of year, my cat, Lydia, wants all cuddles, all the time. I'd like to pretend it's me she wants, but I know she's just after body heat (and behind-the-ear scritches, of course). I get so inspired at the beginning of every year with all the goals and possibilities that the new year holds. So "Carpe Annum" - or "Sieze the Year" - has become my unofficial motto for this time of year. There's just something magical about new beginnings (or maybe it's just the sugar rush from eating nothing but holiday leftovers for a week straight).
